Hamza's First Fast : Hamza the Muslim Boy Series Book 1 (Gauher and Asna Chaudhry) Ages 4 to 8MariaJune 9, 2012I have two sons, aged 3 and 5. I'm not Muslim, and after searching for books for kids about Muslim kids, I was thrilled to find the Hamza books. However, while the book did a good job of explaining what fasting is, I wasn't comfortable with the book's emphasis on Hamza's feelings of guilt, because he - a 5-year-old boy - is fasting, and wants to eat. The book's message really centres on how it's important to think of starving people, and how grateful we should be to have food - I agree with this. However, I thought that that degree of emphasis on starving people, and a small boy's feelings of guilt was more than I bargained for. I would not recommend this book for small children. Perhaps I'm sheltering my kids too much, but I thought the book would be more lighthearted.
